Solar installation Darwin

Solar Installation in Darwin.

Darwin gets more usable sun than almost anywhere in the country, and air conditioning runs hardest exactly when the panels are producing most. That combination is why solar stacks up here better than it does almost anywhere down south.

Sized Against Your Actual Usage

Most disappointing solar systems were sized off a rule of thumb rather than a power bill. Too small and you are still buying most of your power. Too big and you are exporting it for a feed-in rate worth a fraction of what you pay to buy it back.

We work from your actual consumption and when it happens. In Darwin that usually means air conditioning through the day and into the evening, which changes both the size of the system and whether a battery earns its keep.

✓Sized from your bills, not a rule of thumb
✓STC rebate applied at quote, not claimed later
✓Switchboard capacity checked first
✓Same team does your electrical and air con

Why Darwin Is Different

Three things that change the numbers up here.

1

We Are in STC Zone 1

Darwin sits in the highest solar rebate zone in the country. The same system attracts more certificates here than it would in Melbourne or Sydney.

2

Load Matches Generation

Air conditioning runs hardest between about 11am and 5pm, which is exactly the productive part of the solar day. You use what you make instead of exporting it cheaply.

3

Heat Costs You Output

Panels lose efficiency as they get hot, and it gets very hot here. Panel selection, mounting and airflow matter more in Darwin than they do down south.

What Goes Into a System

The parts that actually decide what you get.

Panels

The visible part, and the part people fixate on. Quality and stock availability matter more than the badge.

  • Tier one panels with real warranty backing
  • Stock depth checked before quoting
  • Sized to your roof and shading
  • Heat performance considered, not ignored

Inverter

The component that actually does the work, and the one most likely to need replacing first.

  • Sized correctly to the array
  • Located out of afternoon sun
  • Monitoring included
  • Battery-ready where it makes sense

Roof and mounting

Darwin roofs cop cyclonic wind ratings, extreme heat and driving rain.

  • Mounting rated for local conditions
  • Roof condition assessed first
  • Orientation and shading mapped
  • Penetrations sealed properly

Switchboard and connection

The part that stops more solar jobs than anything else.

  • Board capacity checked before quoting
  • Upgrade quoted separately if needed
  • Grid connection application handled
  • Tested and commissioned

From Bill to Commissioning

How a solar job actually runs.

1

Leave Your Details

Name, number and what you need. We ring you back and ask for a recent power bill — consumption and when it happens tells us more than the roof does.

2

We Come Out and Look

Roof, orientation, shading, switchboard and where the inverter goes. We go over it with you on site.

3

Design and Quote

System sized to your usage, with the STC rebate already applied so the number you see is the number you pay.

4

Install and Commission

Installed, tested, connected and monitoring set up so you can see what it is doing.

Solar, Battery, Air Con and the Board

Solar is rarely just solar. It touches the switchboard, it interacts with your air conditioning load, and a battery changes the sums entirely. Flynn’s holds electrical and refrigeration licences and does solar, so one team can look at the whole picture instead of three contractors each solving their own piece.

After extensive research and a number of quotes from different installers, these guys stood out. They were the most thorough when it came to preparing a quote, asking lots of questions and doing a detailed inspection of our property. I was left with no doubt about which system best suited our needs and why. If you want a genuine team of experts who take a measured and detailed approach to both system specification and installation, I can’t recommend Shane Frew and the rest of the Flynn’s Team enough.

Great communication, great work, fair prices. They told us they do domestic electrical work so we’ll definitely be contacting them for future works. Highly recommended.

Frequently asked questions.

What people ask before going solar in Darwin.

Is solar worth it in Darwin?

Generally yes, and better than most of the country — we are in the highest STC rebate zone, we get the sun, and air conditioning means we use power during daylight rather than exporting it for a low feed-in rate. Whether it works for you depends on your actual usage, which is why we start with a bill.

What size system do I need?

It depends on how much power you use and when. A house running air conditioning most of the day needs a very different system to one that is empty until 6pm. We size from consumption data rather than floor area or a rule of thumb.

How much does solar cost in Darwin?

It varies with system size, roof type, access and whether the switchboard needs work. We do not publish prices because rebate levels and panel pricing move, and a stale number helps nobody. We come out, look at it properly and quote.

Do you handle the rebate?

Yes. The STC rebate is applied as a discount at quote stage, so the price you see is what you actually pay. We handle the paperwork.

Will my switchboard need upgrading?

Sometimes. Older Darwin boards often have no spare capacity or no RCD provision to support a solar connection. We check the board as part of quoting so it is priced in rather than found later.

Should I get a battery at the same time?

Not always. A battery makes most sense if you use a lot of power in the evening. If your usage is mostly daytime, solar alone may serve you better. We will run both numbers rather than just selling you the bigger system.
