Air Conditioner Cleaning in Darwin.
Darwin’s humidity grows mould inside split systems faster than anywhere else in the country. Flynn’s cleans the barrel fan, coil, filters and drain — not just a wipe over the filters — so the unit cools properly and the room stops smelling.

A Clean Is Only Worth Doing Properly
Pulling the filters out and hosing them off is not a service. The mould and bacteria that cause the smell live on the barrel fan and the indoor coil, behind the filters, where a quick clean never reaches.
We strip it back, clean the fan and coil, flush the drain, clear the outdoor unit and check the electrical and refrigerant side while we are there. It takes longer and it costs more, and it is the difference between a fix and a delay.
Why Darwin Is Different
Servicing intervals from down south do not apply up here.
Humidity Grows Mould Fast
A split system in Darwin accumulates in a year what a Melbourne unit might take three to build up. Annual servicing is a minimum, not a maximum.
Units Run Almost Year Round
Eight months of heavy use rather than three. Wear, dust and biological growth all scale with running hours.
Salt Air on the Coast
Coastal suburbs add corrosion to the outdoor unit on top of everything else, which shortens life if it is never cleared.
What Brings People to Book
Most people book because something has started to bother them.
Smells and air quality
That musty smell on start-up is mould and bacteria on the barrel fan and coil. It is the most common reason people call.
- Musty smell when it starts
- Black spots on the vanes
- Allergies worse in that room
- Smell returns quickly after a clean
Not cooling properly
A blocked coil and filthy fan cannot move or cool air, so the unit runs constantly and never gets there.
- Runs all day, room stays warm
- Weak airflow from the indoor unit
- Worse in the afternoon
- Power bills climbing
Water and drainage
Dripping or spitting water usually means a blocked drain or a coil so dirty the condensate cannot run off properly.
- Water dripping from the unit
- Wet wall or floor beneath
- Spitting water when running
- Drain flushed as part of a service
Time and maintenance
If you cannot remember the last service, it is due. Regular servicing costs less than the repairs it prevents.
- Never been serviced
- More than a year since the last one
- New house, unknown history
- Preparing for the build-up

What actually happens when we come out.
Tell Us How Many
How many units and where. Most Darwin homes have three or more, and doing them together costs much less each.
We Protect the Area
Bagged and sheeted before we start, so the wash water goes where it should.
Deep Clean and Test
Filters, barrel fan, coil, vanes and drain cleaned, outdoor unit cleared, performance checked.
Honest Report
What is healthy, what to watch, what needs repair. No pushing a new system on a unit worth servicing.
When a Clean Will Not Save It
Sometimes a unit is genuinely at the end of its life, and we will tell you plainly rather than taking your money for a clean that will not help. Flynn’s installs as well as services, so we can quote a replacement, check whether the switchboard can carry it, and talk about running it off solar if that is where you are heading.

Frequently asked questions.
What most people want to know before booking a split system clean.
How often should a split system be serviced in Darwin?
In Darwin’s climate we recommend at least once a year, ideally before the build-up. Units running most of the year, in bedrooms, or in homes with pets or allergy sufferers often do better with a clean every six months.
How much does a split system clean cost?
It depends on how many units, the type of system, its condition and access. Flynn’s confirms the price before we start, and if we find a fault while we’re there we’ll quote any repair separately so you can decide.
What’s the difference between a clean and a service?
A clean removes the mould, dust and grime from the filters, barrel fan and coil. A service also checks the electrical connections, drainage, refrigerant performance and outdoor unit. Flynn’s does both in the one visit.
How long does it take?
A single split system is usually around an hour depending on condition and access. Multiple units in the one home are quicker per unit, and we’ll give you a realistic window when you book.
Will it fix the smell coming from my air conditioner?
In most cases yes. That musty smell is almost always mould and bacteria on the barrel fan and coil, which a proper deep clean removes. If the smell comes back quickly, that usually points to a drainage issue we’ll identify while we’re there.
What if you find something wrong with the unit?
We’ll tell you what it is, what it means and what it costs to fix before doing anything. If a system is genuinely at the end of its life we’ll say so, but we won’t push a replacement on a unit that’s worth servicing.
