Energy Monitoring in Darwin.
A quarterly bill tells you that you used a lot of power. It does not tell you what used it. Circuit-level monitoring shows you exactly where it goes — and it is usually not where people assume.
Common reasons
It Is Rarely What People Guess
Almost everyone blames the air conditioning, and in Darwin it usually is the biggest single load. But the surprises are what make monitoring worth having — a second fridge in the shed running flat out, a pool pump on eight hours instead of four, a hot water system on the wrong tariff.
Those things quietly cost real money for years. You cannot fix what you cannot see, and a quarterly bill shows you nothing except the total.
What It Is Good For
And what it is not.
Finding the Surprises
The loads nobody accounts for. Old fridges, pumps running too long, a hot water system heating at the wrong time of day.
Deciding Where to Spend
Before buying solar, replacing an air conditioner or converting to LED, knowing what actually uses your power tells you which one is worth doing first.
Seeing Self-Use vs Export
If you have solar, monitoring shows how much you are actually using versus exporting cheaply — which is the number that decides whether a battery makes sense.
What Gets Monitored
Installed at the switchboard, measuring the circuits that matter.
Whole of house
The baseline — total consumption in real time rather than quarterly.
- Live consumption
- Daily and monthly history
- Compare periods properly
- Spot changes as they happen
Individual circuits
Where the value is. Air conditioning, hot water, pool, oven, sheds.
- Air conditioning circuits separately
- Hot water and pool pump
- Shed and workshop sub-mains
- Kitchen and appliance circuits
Solar generation
Generation, consumption and export in one view.
- Production through the day
- Self-use versus export
- Whether a battery would pay
- System performance over time
What it will not do
Being straight about the limits.
- It will not reduce your bill by itself
- It needs you to act on it
- Not every circuit is worth metering
- Board space required

Monitor First, Then Spend
If you are weighing up solar, a battery, a new air conditioner or an LED conversion, monitoring first tells you which one actually addresses your bill. It is the cheapest thing on that list and it stops you spending five figures on the wrong answer. We would rather you did that than bought the biggest system we could sell you.

Guides from our team on this kind of work.
Great communication, great work, fair prices. They told us they do domestic electrical work so we’ll definitely be contacting them for future works. Highly recommended.— Alexander G.
After extensive research and a number of quotes from different installers, these guys stood out. They were the most thorough when it came to preparing a quote, asking lots of questions and doing a detailed inspection of our property. I was left with no doubt about which system best suited our needs and why. If you want a genuine team of experts who take a measured and detailed approach to both system specification and installation, I can’t recommend Shane Frew and the rest of the Flynn’s Team enough.— Sandra Y.
I am happy with the outcome, tripping switch and power points fixed. Shane is good and professional with providing the desired outcome.— Clayton H.
Frequently asked questions.
What people ask about energy monitoring.
Will energy monitoring reduce my bill?
Not by itself. It shows you where the power goes; you still have to act on it. What it does reliably is stop you guessing — and the surprises it finds, like a second fridge or a pump running too long, are usually worth more than the install cost.
Where does it get installed?
At the switchboard, with current transformers on the circuits you want measured. That means board space is required, and on a full older board that may be a constraint. We check first.
Can it show my solar as well?
Yes, and that is one of the more useful views — generation, consumption and export together. It tells you how much you are exporting cheaply, which is exactly the number you need before deciding on a battery.
How many circuits should I monitor?
Usually the big ones: air conditioning, hot water, pool, oven and any shed sub-main. Metering every lighting circuit is rarely worth the cost. We will suggest what is worth measuring for your place.
Do I need it if I already have solar monitoring?
Solar monitoring shows generation and often total consumption, but rarely circuit-level detail. If you want to know which loads are driving your evening usage, that needs proper monitoring at the board.
Is it worth doing before getting solar?
Often, yes. Knowing your actual consumption pattern makes for a much better sized solar system, and occasionally it shows the money is better spent elsewhere first.
