Lighting & LED Upgrades in Darwin.
New lights, dead downlights, flickering circuits or a full halogen-to-LED conversion. Flynn’s looks at the whole room rather than swapping fitting for fitting, so you end up with lighting that actually works for the space.

In Darwin You Pay for Halogens Twice
Halogen downlights burn hot. Every one of them is a small heater in your ceiling, and in a Darwin build-up your air conditioner then spends the afternoon removing that heat again.
So the saving from converting to LED is not just the globes and the power they use — it is the cooling load you stop creating in the first place. That is usually the number that decides it.
Lighting Done Properly
Three things that separate a good lighting job from a fitting swap.
Layout Before Fittings
Swapping like for like keeps a bad layout. If a room has always been dark, the spacing or beam angle is usually the problem, not the globes.
Dimmers Matched to Drivers
Most flickering and humming complaints come from a dimmer that was never designed for the LED fitted to it. Specify both together and it stops.
Built for the Wet Season
Outdoor fittings in Darwin cop humidity, salt and driving rain. Correct rating is the difference between years and one season.
What Usually Brings People to This Point
Lighting problems build slowly until the house feels dark, dated or hot.
Downlights blowing constantly
Halogens have a short life and generate real heat. Replacing them every few months is a running cost people stop noticing.
- Globes lasting months, not years
- Rooms noticeably hotter
- Transformers failing as well
- Cut-outs usually reusable for LED
Flickering or buzzing
Sometimes a fitting, sometimes a dimmer, sometimes a loose connection. Worth diagnosing rather than replacing and hoping.
- One fitting flickering
- Several rooms at once
- Buzzing from a dimmer
- Worse when other appliances run
Dark or badly lit rooms
Usually a spacing and beam angle problem rather than a brightness problem. More light in the wrong place does not fix it.
- Shadows over benches and desks
- Rooms that feel gloomy lit
- Lighting laid out for old furniture
- Single central light in a big room
Outdoor and security
Sensor, flood, garden and entertaining-area lighting, specified to survive a Darwin wet season.
- No sensor lighting at entries
- Dark driveway or carport
- Entertaining areas unusable at night
- Existing fittings corroded

Frequently asked questions.
What most people want to know before booking lighting work.
How much does a full LED conversion cost?
It depends on the number of fittings, whether the existing wiring and cut-outs can be reused, and the quality of fitting you choose. Doing the whole house at once is far cheaper per fitting than doing a room at a time, so it is worth quoting the lot.
Will LEDs actually save me money?
They use a fraction of the power of halogens and last years rather than months, so there is a direct saving on the globes and the running cost. In Darwin there is a second saving people forget: halogens dump heat into the room and your air conditioner then removes it.
Why do my lights flicker?
Usually a failing LED driver, a dimmer that is not compatible with the fitting, or a loose connection. Flickering across several rooms rather than one fitting can point to something more significant, which is worth having looked at properly.
Can you replace halogen downlights with LED?
Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. In most cases the existing cut-outs and wiring can be reused, which keeps the cost down. We will confirm when we look at what you have.
Can you install dimmable or smart lighting?
Yes. The important part is matching the dimmer to the fittings — most flickering and humming complaints come from mismatched combinations. We will specify both together so they work.
Do you do outdoor and security lighting?
Yes. Sensor lights, flood lighting, garden and entertaining areas. Darwin’s humidity and storms are hard on outdoor fittings, so specifying properly rated gear matters more here than down south.
