Oven & Cooktop Installation in Darwin.
New oven, new cooktop, or going to induction. The appliance is the easy part — getting the circuit right is what stops it tripping the board every time you use it. Have the model number handy when we ring and we will tell you what it needs before it turns up.
Common jobs
It Is Almost Never the Appliance
We get called out constantly to brand new ovens that trip the power, and people are usually halfway through organising a warranty return. The appliance is nearly always fine.
New ovens, and induction cooktops especially, draw considerably more than whatever they replaced. If the existing circuit was never rated for that load it will trip no matter which brand you buy. Get the circuit checked before you send the appliance back.
Where It Goes Wrong
The three things we get called to fix.
Undersized Circuits
The old cooktop drew less, the circuit was never upgraded, and the new one trips constantly. By far the most common.
No Spare Way at the Board
Ovens and cooktops need dedicated circuits, and dedicated circuits need somewhere to land. Older Darwin boards frequently have nothing spare.
Found Out on Delivery Day
The appliance arrives, the installer cannot connect it, and the kitchen is out of action until an electrician can get there. Entirely avoidable with a phone call beforehand.
What We Do
Oven, cooktop and kitchen appliance electrical.
Oven circuits
Wall ovens and freestanding units, connected properly on a circuit rated for the load.
- Dedicated oven circuits
- Isolation switch installed
- Connection and testing
- Old unit disconnected and removed
Cooktop and induction
Induction is the big one — the load is well above what most old cooktop circuits were built for.
- Induction cooktop circuits
- Separate oven and cooktop supplies
- Cable sized from the spec sheet
- Gas to induction conversions
Kitchen renovations
The heaviest electrical load in the house. Worth planning at the start rather than the end.
- Bench and island outlets
- Under-cabinet lighting
- Rangehood and dishwasher circuits
- Coordinated with the cabinetmaker
Appliance faults
When something keeps tripping, it is worth finding out whether it is the appliance or the circuit.
- Trips on start-up
- Trips partway through a cycle
- Only when other appliances run
- Started after a new appliance arrived

Kitchens Are Where Switchboards Give Up
A new kitchen usually means an oven circuit, an induction circuit, a dishwasher, a rangehood and more bench outlets. That is a lot of new load on a board that may already be full. We check capacity when we quote, because finding out mid-renovation is the expensive version.
Needed some electrical work done in a short time period. Shane came out, checked what needed doing, was prompt and professional. Anthony came 2 days later and did the work very professionally. Highly recommended, 10/10.— David B.
Great communication, great work, fair prices. They told us they do domestic electrical work so we’ll definitely be contacting them for future works. Highly recommended.— Alexander G.
I am happy with the outcome, tripping switch and power points fixed. Shane is good and professional with providing the desired outcome.— Clayton H.
Frequently asked questions.
What people ask about oven and cooktop installation.
My new oven keeps tripping the power. Is it faulty?
Almost certainly not. New ovens and induction cooktops draw considerably more than what they replaced, and the existing circuit may never have been rated for it. Have the circuit checked before you organise a warranty return.
Does an induction cooktop need a special circuit?
It needs a dedicated circuit sized for its actual load, which is usually well above what an old electric cooktop circuit was built for. Give us the model number when we ring and we can tell you exactly what it requires before it is delivered.
Can you connect an oven I have already bought?
Yes. Give us the model number when we ring and we will confirm whether the existing circuit suits it. If it does not, we will tell you what is needed and what it costs before the delivery date.
We are going from gas to induction. What is involved?
A new dedicated circuit, almost always, and often a look at the switchboard because induction is a substantial load. Best sorted before the cooktop arrives.
Do you remove the old appliance?
We disconnect it safely and can remove it. Disposal we will confirm when quoting.
Will I need a switchboard upgrade?
Sometimes. Dedicated appliance circuits need a spare way and adequate capacity, and older Darwin boards often have neither. We check as part of quoting.
